First Shot

I got my first neupogen shot this morning. I will have one a day until my white count starts to grow rapidly. It is a sub cu injection and I opted to have it in my stomach where there's a nice layer of fat. I didn't feel anything. The gauge of the needle is so fine that it's like a mild mosquito bite and I asked the nurse to push the plunger slowly. She did a great job. I showered and had my dressing changed. It will be daily now since we're using paper tape. I feel like my skin has been ripped off with that other stuff.

I've been dealing with constipation. It seems that it's a normal thing with this treatment. I take lots of pills and I'm sure some of them are the problem. I take an anti-viral, anti-fungal, anti-ulcer and some of my usual things too.

The biggest news for me this morning is that my platelet count is at 106! I highly doubt I'll need a transfusion. This is going so well that I just can't believe it. I had a great night's rest last night. I saw an amazing sunset, too, that was just spectacular. So, Boston Clam Chowder for lunch. What do you think? I hope it's out of a can!!

  1. Can you ask them for a dose of Milk of Magnesia before bed tonight? Might help the constipation and also keep those magnesium levels within normal range.

  3. Sounds like all is well! You sound high in spirit! Question...what on earth is Boston Clam Chowda? A mix of New England and RI? Let us know!

  4. Nicole, I asked Andy the same thing! He figured it was the same as New England but it was more of a clear with the consistency of white. Not bad. I think the clams were real and my eyes aren't yellow, yet.

Heidi, thanks for reading. I was skeptical but I'm a believer now. I'm sure you see the difference in Jen! It's been a whole lot easier than I thought. Do some research and some thinking. Have Jen give you my phone number at home and when I get back we can talk all you want. Good luck!

  6. Jane - So glad to hear your spirits and counts a great! We have been praying and rooting for you in NJ. I saw an owl that had landed in our backyard last night - Riley spotted it since he is a bird dog. Haven't had any time to do geneology since we got back. It sounds like you enjoyed that Boston clam chowder - never hear of that before! It sounds like you have made terrific progress with your leg, etc. I'm sure you will continue this progress. I will check on you later too. Hang loose Jane we LOVE you! Ann, Dennis and the gang from NJ
